INFORMATION  NOTE

Ⅰ. Date and Location 

The International Academic Symposium on “Myanmar in 2014: Re-integrating into International Community” will be held at Science Hall, Yunnan University, Kunming, Yunnan Province from 29 to 30 July 2014.

Ⅱ. Weather and Clothing

In July, the climate is always cool at Kunming, by China standard, with temperature ranging between a low 10-24 degrees. Due to climate change, Kunming has been experiencing occasional rains in this season. We suggest that you come with light clothes but bring as well a light blazer / jacket and umbrella to prevent colds.

Ⅲ. Visa Facilitation

Participants from other countries should obtain a visa to enter The People's Republic of China (P.R.C.) 

Ⅳ.  Transportation in Kunming

1．The Kunming Changshui International Airport is located about 30 km away from the city’s downtown. Take the Airport Express bus line 1 to Xi Yi Hotel (西驿酒店)(final stop). Buses depart every 15 minutes, and take 50 minutes to complete the journey at the cost of 25 RMB. Airport Express Train is not recommended for it will complicate your journey. From Xi Yi Hotel, walk across Dong Feng West Road (东风西路), turn right to Cui Hu South Road, then turn left and go straight 200 meters along Cui Hu South Road (翠湖南路) to Grand Park Hotel (君乐酒店). 

2． Take a taxi to Grand Park Hotel (君乐酒店). All taxi drivers will know this hotel. Taxies to downtown Kunming can be hired at arrival floor of the Kunming International Airport. The taxi cost from the airport to the hotel is  100-120  RMB (approx. US$ 16-19). If any communication problem with the driver, please ask the driver to call 135-7708-6356 (Dr. Li Tao, symposium secretariat) 

Ⅴ. Accommodation

1. Hotel Arrangement

Delegates invited by the organizers to attend the symposium will be accommodated for 3 nights: check in July 28, check out July 31. The room booking includes buffet breakfast. Additional nights may be reserved at delegates’ own expense. Meanwhile, the following benefits you can enjoy:

2. Hotel Check-in Procedure

Upon arrival at the hotel, participants should check-in at the reception where they will be given keys to their respective rooms after signing the hotel registration form. Our staff will also be available in the lobby on 28 July.

Ⅵ. Honorarium

The Center for Myanmar Studies (CMS) Yunnan University would like to publish the proceedings of the papers, therefore, such presenters as can confirm the submission of a full paper of 5000 words in English will be offered with an honorarium. The deadline for submission of the full paper will be September 30, 2014 – two months after the symposium.

Ⅵ.  Meals

Ø     Dinner   of  July 28 (18:30-20:00)

Picking up will be arranged at 18:30 at the entrance of Hotel to the Zhuliguan(竹里馆)Restaurant

Ø Breakfast of  July 29-31 (07:00-08:00)   

Free Buffet breakfast will be available for checked-in participants on the 1st Floor of the hotel

Ø       Lunch of  July 29  (11:50-13:00)   

Venue: Buffet lunch on the 2nd Floor of the Yinxingyuan（银杏苑）Restaurant

Ø Welcoming Dinner of July 29 (17:50-20:00)   

Venue：on the 3rd Floor of the Yinxingyuan（银杏苑）Restaurant

Ø  Lunch of  July 30  (12:10-13:30)

Ⅶ.  Event Procedures

Symposium  begins at 08:30 a.m. at the Lecture Hall, the 2nd floor of Science Hall, Yunnan University. Signage will be posted to show the location of the conference room.

A coach will be arranged for participants’ picking up at the entrance of Hotel to the symposium venue at 08:30 a.m. from July 29-30. Please gather in the hotel lobby at 08:30. The coach will depart at 08:40. Meanwhile, back to hotel at 19:30 ,gathering at the gate of  Science Hall, Yunnan University. 

Ⅷ. Departure

Accommodation expenses are covered from 28-30 July (3 nights). Check-out at the hotel is before 12: 00 noon, 31 July. Participants wishing to stay in Kunming after the event may make their own arrangements.
